Welcome to the School of Basic Sciences

Our school is responsible for teaching chemistry, mathematics and physics and other domains of basic science for all the EPFL schools. The School of Basic Sciences develops a strategy of research and dissemination with the top-priority objective of producing fundamental knowledge in chemistry, mathematics, physics and other domains of basic science. It is also responsible for the long-term applications of its research. The school encourages interdisciplinary research.

Professor Michael Grätzel is the recipient of one of the "European Research Council 2009 Advanced Grants" for Physical Sciences and Engineering;
this  year ERC had also awarded Prof. Suliana Manley with an "European Research Council 2009 Starting Grant" for Life Sciences.
Professor Nicolas Grandjean appointed Full Professor Press Release.
Two new professors at our Faculty:   Joachim Krieger  and  Mathias Kläui named Associate Professor.
